Caroline Odum: Ginger Moore, The Oaks Assisted Living
Before I even began my internship at the Oaks, I knew that assisted living facilities were not known for having the best quality of care. As I completed my internship, I saw the problems first hand. I saw the call lights being left on for much longer than they should, and I saw the laziness of some of the nurses and CNAs. I also heard the nurses and CNAs complain about how badly the residents are treated sometimes. This greatly intrigued me, and I wanted to know why assisted living facilities had such a bad reputation. In my opinion, they are not different from hospitals because they are both provide care for the sick and helpless in our community. Many professionals argue that many who do work in assisted living do so because they need the job. They do not get paid as much as nurses in hospitals, and they have long hours. Many nurses become lazy, and that does not allow teamwork to thrive. I genuinely want to see the care of the elderly improved.
